My Final Farewell

Many staff and students over the past few weeks have been known to walk past me and on so many ocassion say to me “can we not get rid of you Becky?”

The answer to that question everytime has been no! The past few weeks as you will all have seen, I have spent working in the PE Department. The reason is because in September I will be going to University for 3 years to train to become a PE Teacher myself. You may still on occassion see me as I come in to help out possibly for the first few weeks in September and again towards the end of the acedemic year if I have finished University. However even on the days I don’t come into St Thomas More, you still won’t be rid of me! Because you can take a student out of St Thomas More, but you can’t take Thomas More out of a student. So everyday im at University, as I drive there in my car, I will most proberly be wondering about what is going on back at Thomas More. I hope to remain in regular contact with staff and students at the college also, and will continue to support the college wherever I am and whatever I am doing. Quite simply St Thomas More will remain in my heart for the rest of my life.

I entered St Thomas More 7 Years ago, very shy, very nervous, and without a dream. I leave a confident young woman with the dream to be a PE Teacher, the ultimate dream will to be one day return to Thomas More and teach! Nobody knows when that day will come, it may be 3 years, it maybe 30 years, but i promise one day I will.

I have many thank you’s to say, far to many. I want to thank the Headmaster, and all the senior team. I want to thank the office staff, the kitchen staff, and even the cleaners who always said hello when I walked in early in a morning. I want to thank all the form teachers I have had over the past 7 years, some who remain, some who have left. Along with that I want to thank all my heads of year, and subject teachers from the past 7 years.

This final year at college has been amazing, the best year of my life in fact. It has been an absolute honour to be your Head Girl, and is something I will be proud to tell everybody I meet for the rest of my life. Im sure now you all have visions of me telling my Grandchildren when I have grey hair!! More than likely I will be. I want to say some special Thank Yous now however to individual staff who in this past year have been of huge support, but many I have not just know for a year, some have been there since I began in 2001. Miss Whitemore, Mr Halliday, Mrs Mellor, Mr Miller, Mr wootton, Mr Millington, Mrs Gibson, Miss Smith, Miss Emery, Mr Round, Mr Robinson, Miss Bernard. I am sure there are many more I can mention, these staff have been amazing, thank you!

My one last special thank you goes to Mrs Staton, the one I challenge to get the best parking spot by arriving before 7am, the one I had shouting down a walkie talkie on sports day, the friendly face that was always first to greet me in a morning, more importantly the one who supported me, and made me laugh far too many times. She is a fantastic teacher, and role model, who I hope to one day replicate in my teaching career. It is thanks to Mrs Staton, I made it this far, and thanks to Mrs Staton and also Miss Whitemore I have been inspired to train as a PE Teacher. I wish you all the luck in the world Mrs S, Take care.

To those staff leaving us, I wish you all the very best in your new endeavors, thank you for all the help and support you offered me, the staff, and students of St Thomas More.

So you have all now I am sure started you summer holidays, so all that remains for me to say is THANK YOU to the students too! For your help in my Head Girl projects, for your support when we fought to keep the school open, for those of you who whatever you were doing or however far away you were always popped over to say hello, and to you all for the laughs we shared around college and in your PE lessons. Please remain safe over the holidays and as Mr Finnigan said, say thank you to your parents.

I will not say goodbye, as I feel goodbye means forever. Therefore I will see you later.

And for those of you who would like to keep up with me as I move onto University, I will be setting up a new blog, the address if which will be posted on here around the start of September. This blog will keep track of my Uni life for 3 years, and hopefully may provide you with an insight to University!

Look forward to seeing you all again soon. see you later!

Becky :)
